The End of an Era

May 16th, 2008 · No Comments

Well… that’s a little bit of a dramatic title.  It’s the end of the Rieju Era.  Goodbye, Esperanza.  All told, she sat unused for over a month before finding a loving home.  I was strung along by a buyer at 1200 Euro for about three weeks.  Stop.  I should back up.  On March 13th, I received my full fledged, big boy-license.  The next day I pulled Leona out from the Vehicle Processing Center after not seeing her for five months.  The battery was shot, and she was in desperate need of an oil change.  A little hassle ensued, but before long I was back on two wheels with an engine made for something larger than rotisserie chicken cooker.  So the next obstacle was finding a good buyer for the 125cc Rieju SMX125.  I listed her at 1200 Euro and found a buyer almost immediately.  I let him ride her for a week and a half before paying, and he ultimately opted out in favor of a scooter.  Seriously?  A scooter?  Over a little Super Moto?  I played the sucker on that deal, but in the end, it all turned out.  I dropped the price to 1000 Euro and within a couple weeks found a buyer who I offered 900 Euro if he commited to buying it immediately.  The guy loves it.  His former commuter had been a Ford F150, and he was getting eaten alive on gas prices.  Now, he’s got Esperanze, loves her, and is teaching his teenage son to ride it.  I couldn’t be happier.  Sure, it’d be nice to have that extra 300E, but I’d give it up in a heartbeat to ensure that the bike went to someone who’d take care of her and really utilize her.

Onto more practical things.  An update is advised here.  I’m running an old version of Wordpress which means I need to update it.  In order to do so, I’m going to have to first backup my blog database and a bunch of other little technical things which nobody cares for whatsoever… but the bottom line is, it might be a little while before MotoHippie.com looks normal again.  Additionally, I’m ready to get started on some adventuring and vagabondary… so standby, my friends… because it’s on.
